Hey, I'm Jer Wat:
Illustrator x Stamp Maker x Printmaker x Friend
At the start of 2020, I wanted to jumpstart my creativity by taking my experience with illustration and try something new by carving it into rubber to make stamps. Now I'm hooked on it!
I posted on Instagram a self portrait stamp because I wanted to find a new way to encourage my kids with my handwritten notes.
This motivated me to start offering custom stamps for people who wanted to do the same thing for their kids, or for those who want to find a way to express themselves in a unique way with a stamp of their face.
Every week since my first go at it, I've been practicing with rubber blocks to get better at carving tiny details. From there I started making prints and so I want to offer that to you here.
I produce videos during the weekdays so my world is mostly digitally based.
I am enamoured by the appeal of creating things with my hand and to take a step back from the digital world in the evenings and my spare time to fuel the creative part of my mind. Not being able to "undo" a carve is incredibly daunting but it makes me appreciate the art of it all and the motivation to get better at it so that I don't rely on correcting mistakes and instead accept the nuances of printmaking. So I hope you enjoy these prints as much as I love making them.
Thanks for visiting.
